"Artists in Action," 2011 - 2012

 

"Artists in Action"...is the demonstration series that the VILLAGE ARTISANS GALLERY sponsors each year starting in the late fall through the early spring of the following year. The "Artist in Action" for the afternoon sets up a temporary studio in the gallery where you are invited to be informed and entertained while watching the artist at work. It's a wonderful opportunity to talk to the artist in person and see first-hand how their work is created. All of the demonstrations take place on Saturday afternoons from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm, unless otherwise indicated.

February 18, Paula Lewis - Copper Enameling

                     Paula's work reflects her passion for perennial gardening with a modern sensibility.
                     She collects, presses and uses plant material gathered from her garden to create
                     the botanical silhouettes on geometric copper shapes. A blend of nature, simple

                     lines, textural interest and rich color exemplifies her style.                          

                      

February 25, Rebecca Francis - Rag Rugs Trunk Show

                     Simplicity....Utility.....Aesthetics ....the Rag Rug.  Rebecca Francis has been weaving
                     rag Rugs for over 30 years on her 300 year old loom.  Rebecca will describe this
                     traditional recycled/upcycled process of turning clothes off the rack to rugs on the floor.

                     Come select the perfect color and style rug for your home from her collection.

 

March 3, Gay McGeary - Hand-woven Coverlets

                     Gay's hand woven traditional coverlets and table runners are based on the patterns and
                     weave structures of early nineteenth century Pennsylvania German weavers. She
                     designs each coverlet by choosing a main geometric pattern, creating a border on

                     three sides and framing it with an interesting fringe technique.

 

March 10, Bob Triplet - Folk Art Fish Decoys

                     Bob has been carving most of his life. One day while picking through pieces of lumber
                     he noticed how the grain of a piece of wood reminded him of fish scales and a new direction
                     in carving opened up. The simple clean lines of his fish decoys are equally at home in a
                     rustic or contemporary surroundings. 

 

March 17, Leslie S. Hallaby-Moore - Chain Maille Jewelry Trunk Show

                     A life long interested in art led Leslie to a chain maille class where she found her artistic
                     passion. Proficient in about twenty five weaves she likes to set her work apart by
                     incorporating color in her jewelry through the use of enameled copper rings. She also

                     enjoys working very small (micro maille).

 

March 24, Richelle Dourte - Metalledwith Jewelry Trunk Show

                     Richelle's jewelry is inspired by nature and crafted by hand. Whether a piece is a pressed 
                     leaf, captured forever; notes from an old hymnal; or an avian image, each pie preference to
                     those that are organic, native, recycled and handmade.

 

March 31, Clare Klaum - Artist

                    Clare enjoys working in several different media including pastels, watercolors and colored
                    pencils using her own photographs of local flora and fauna as subject matter for her
                    paintings. Pet portraits are a specialty.

 

Sunday, April 1 - 17th Anniversary Open House Celebration 12 noon- 5pm  

                    with special guest artist Trudi Gilliam - Mixed Metal Wall Sculptures - 1 - 4pm

                    We will be celebrating the Village Artisans Gallery 17th Anniversary with, no fooling, 17% off
                    all purchases all day!  Come celebrate with us, enjoy Gay Foltz's fabulous mini carrot cake
                    cupcakes and other refreshments and meet special guest artist Trudi Gilliam. Trudi will be
                    here from 1
- 4 to talk about her work which she calls a "Manifestation of her love of life, living

                    things and her surroundings". Her one of a kind copper and brass sculptures can be found in
                    numerous private and corporate collections.

 

 April 7, Michelle Kurtz - Ethereal Muse Jewelry Trunk Show

                    Michelle loves the process of creation and allows her muse to take her wherever she needs to
                    go to create some beautiful jewelry out of various metals, semi-precious stones an pearls. 
                    Finding inspiration in nature she starts with an idea of what she wants, gathers her supplies
                    and decides where to go with color, shape, size, and function, while changing direction as the
                    materials dictate.  

April 14, Sandra Blair
- Wildlife Art

                    Sandra states that as a wildlife artist, her challenge is to capture a fleeting moment in nature,
                    that split second of wonder when you come into the presence of an animal in its natural
                    environment. Her many awards attest to her ability to capture that moment.

 

April 21, Margery Erickson - Hand-woven wearables & Jewelry Trunk Show

                    Margery's ponchos, shawl coats, tops and scarves are woven on floor looms using natural
                    fibers
 of cotton, tencel or bamboo. Most of the fabric is made from hand dyed earth and sky
                    toned warps that are 20 - 30 yards long. A line of jewelry made from sterling silver wire and
                    other components was added to compliment the clothing.

 

April 28, Thom Glace - Dragonfly & Fish Art.

                    Thom is known for his detailed studies of trout, salmon, fresh and saltwater fish and dragonfly
                    watercolor studies. Landscape miniatures, inspired by his world travels are another favorite
                    subject.
